Theodore “Ted” Moore

Otoe-Missouria, Osage, Pawnee, Sac & Fox

I am an enrolled member of the Otoe-Missouria tribe, and also am Osage, Pawnee and Sac & Fox. I was born and raised Fairfax, Oklahoma and am part of the Grayhorse District in the Osage Nation. My entire life has been growing up in my culture and later becoming an artist and educator.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Oklahoma University and a Master of Education from Oklahoma City University. My career has been as an art teacher, grant writer, professor and artist. I recently retired after 40 years and now have the opportunity to further develop my art.

During these 40 years I wrote grants for tribal museums, was a non-profit Development Director, an Education Director, a tribal administrator, and the Cultural Engagement Center Manager at the Northern Oklahoma College (NOC) in Tonkawa Oklahoma.  I also taught Native studies, art studies and grant writing at Pawnee Nation College and at Bacone College, where I was Chair of the Native American Studies department.

I have an artist exhibition coming in July of 2025 in Lincoln, Nebraska, along with other native artists. The exhibit is called “Reflections of Our People, Our Ways, Our Land.” This exhibit focuses on expressing our cultural ways about our Otoe-Missouria tribe and history.

I recently had an art exhibit at Philips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma, called “Across Generations.” I exhibited 16 of my paintings and a painted art vest along with exhibits by my daughter Jessica Harjo of her art and fashion work.

In addition to painting, I create artistic fashion belts, medallions and Native cultural items including traditional dance items.

Ah-ho!
